Waikato is a Maori word which means flowing water. The Waikato river is the longest river in New Zealand, (in fact 264 miles long) and flows through the towns of Hamilton, Cambridge and Ngaruawahia in North Island, New Zealand. When I first saw it, I was mesmerised by its sheer beauty, the unspoilt landscape around it and its peaceful flowing quality. 'Waikato' also refers to the region where the Waikato river flows.
